The West Termite, Pest & Lawn process
First, we’ll inspect your home for possible entry points and to determine the extent of the infestation. This is important because sealing and baiting entry points is the best way to prevent a future infestation.
Treatment for centipedes includes insecticide, granules, baseboard and crevice treatments, bait traps, and glue traps. Your technician will help you choose the right treatment plan for your home.
Prevention is the best treatment option for centipedes, so you may want to consider a monthly or quarterly pest-control treatment plan to keep these creepy crawlies out of your home!

Frequently asked centipede questions
Are centipedes dangerous?
Centipedes have large structures that look like claws, and underneath these claws is a venom gland. Centipedes are carnivores (meat-eaters) and they use venom to paralyze their prey. They are mostly dangerous to worms, spiders, and other small vertebrates. They very rarely bite humans, and if they do the result is usually minor skin irritation. It can be very scary to be bitten by a centipede, but it is not medically dangerous.
That being said, if you have very small pets in the house – hamsters, mice, toy dogs, etc. – centipede bites can be very painful and possibly dangerous for them. So if you see a centipede, contact West Termite, Pest, and Lawn as soon as possible.
How can I get rid of centipedes?
Centipedes can be difficult to exterminate completely because they are so good at hiding themselves away in dark, un-trafficked areas of your home. If you suspect you may have a centipede problem, you should contact a pest control specialist immediately. They have the appropriate chemical treatments and training to eliminate your infestation completely.
To keep your home from being reinfested, your exterminator will likely also recommend these centipede remedies:
- Moisture Reduction – repair leaks or use dehumidifiers to dry up any damp areas in your home and deter centipedes
- Cut Back on Clutter – picking up and de-cluttering can help ensure that the centipedes have nowhere to hide. Try not to store items directly against walls.
- Eliminate other pests – since centipedes feed on other insects, reducing their population with pest control will cut back on the likelihood of a centipede moving back in
- Seal Cracks – Centipedes have flat, flexible bodies and can squeeze through pretty small cracks, so seal up and gaps or cracks that might enable them to get inside.
- Vacuum – vacuum to remove a home centipede sighting
Your pest control specialist should inspect and treat all visible cracks and crevices along with all other possible centipede harborage areas. If there are a lot of centipedes outdoors in your area, your pest control specialist may suggest outdoor chemical applications and barriers and mulching near the house.
What are the signs of a Centipede infestation?
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to see a centipede infestation coming until you find them in your home. They leave very little evidence of their existence behind other than an actual sighting. And humans rarely see them because they move very fast and are mostly nocturnal creatures. They do not damage property (unlike millipedes who are known to eat wood).
