List of Pests Present in AR & OK
Arkansas and Oklahoma are both considered part of the American South, which means warm weather, short winters, and humidity. These conditions, unfortunately, can also be the perfect host for a wide variety of insects and other pests that homes in Arkansas and Oklahoma can be infested by.
If you’re new to the South, or are just trying to figure out how to best protect your home against pests, here’s a helpful list of the most common insects present in both The Natural State and the Sooner State!
Cockroaches
Cockroaches enjoy warm, humid environments, so they feel right at home during the warmer months in Arkansas and Oklahoma. A cockroach infestation can be quite serious, since they can contaminate any food they come into contact with and trigger asthma attacks and allergic reactions.
Termites
Termites are also fans of warm weather. They do not bite people, but they can cause serious structural damage to your home, carpets, and furniture. Unless you spot a swarm, it’s very possible to have a serious infestation and not even know about it. West Termite and Pest certified technicians know the warning signs and can treat an infestation accordingly.
Spiders
These eight-legged pests can get into your house through cracks and crevices that have been left unsealed. They are usually not very dangerous to humans and can even eat other insects, but most people still don’t want them around.
Ants
These social insects are very common all over the US and can be very difficult to eliminate once they’ve gotten into your home. They can get into food and potentially contaminate it, posing a potential hazard to your family. Fire ants are a particularly unpleasant subspecies of ant that can sting, leaving painful welts– definitely not something you want to experience in your home!
Wasps
They like to live outdoors and don’t really want to build a nest inside of your home, but it’s still possible for them to get indoors. One of the most common ways to have a serious wasp problem in your home is to seal up the outside entrance to a nest, leaving the wasps no other choice but to exit the nest into your home. Certified technicians can safely remove a nest and its inhabitants from the premises.
Earwigs
Another insect that doesn’t necessarily want to live in your home, but will seek out moist, damp conditions anywhere they can find them. They can enter through cracks and gaps or by hitchhiking on clothes and bags, and might find a home in damp cardboard or anywhere else that’s moist. However, they don’t actually go into your ears, and they don’t really bite humans. They also don’t pose much of a threat inside the home other than the fact that you don’t want bugs inside your house at all!
Bedbugs
They can live anywhere in the US– or anywhere in the world– but they are a major nuisance anywhere they go. They can enter your home through clothes and luggage, and once they’re inside they don’t just live inside your bed. They can also live inside furniture and carpets, or anywhere they can find their next meal. Once they’ve entered your home, bedbugs are definitely a job that should be handled by a professional exterminator.
Most of the common pests in Arkansas and Oklahoma aren’t necessarily harmful to humans, but can still be a nuisance in the home. West Termite, Pest & Lawn is prepared to seek out and remove any of the above pests and any number of others.
